11 different Lords score in 28-point win

OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College men's basketball team bounced back into the win column on Tuesday evening with a 92-64 win over the visiting Georgian Grizzlies. With three wins in four games to start the season, the 28-point margin of victory is their second largest to date.

Georgian scored first for their only lead of the night, however once the Lords passed them with a layup from Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) 5:26 through the opening frame to make it 8-7, the Lords did not look back. From that point on, the Lords went on a 15-4 run in the final 3:15 of the first quarter to lead 23-11 after 10 minutes.

The Lords extended their lead following a big second quarter, outscoring the Grizzlies 22-16 to go into halftime with a 45-27 lead. Kevin Hamlet (Scarborough, ON) had a big second quarter, shooting 3-for-5 from beyond the arc to put nine points on the board for the Lords.

Coming out of the break, the Grizzlies still had no answers for a high-flying Lords offence. Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) was perfect in the third quarter, shooting 4-for-4 to help put the Lords up by 20. Durham did not slow down in the fourth quarter, in fact having their highest scoring frame of the night, scoring 25 points to hold off the Grizzlies.

Durham was dominant in every aspect, shooting 46.5% to Georgian's 30.4% and out-rebounding their opponents 53-40. The Lords could not be stopped in the paint, scoring 54 of their 92 points right under the bucket. The Lords saw 39 points coming off the bench, with 11 different players scoring at least one basket.

Hamlet was the leading scorer with 17 points, adding five rebounds and an assist.

Simon finished the game with a double-double, recording 15 points and 10 rebounds in 21 minutes of play. Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, ON) scored 13 points off the bench in 19 minutes of play, while Stoop added 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Desson Spencer (Scarborough, ON) saw seven of his eight rebounds come on the defensive end to send the Lords moving the ball the other way.

The Lords are back at it for an 8:00 PM tip-off against the Centennial Colts on Friday, November 10 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre.
