NORTH YORK, ON – Opening the 2023 OCAA season, the Durham College women's rugby team won three matches by decisive margins to pick up where they left off last year.
Durham started off the day strong with the OCAA's first match of the season against the host Seneca Sting.
The OCAA's overall female rookie of the year for 2022-23, Emily Cooper (Guelph, ON), picked up where she left off last year scoring four tries in the 50-0 win. Maya Austin (Ajax, ON) and Ciara London (Oshawa, ON) scored a pair of tries each, while Shay Morris (Ajax, ON) kicked four successful conversions and Danika Johnston (Courtice, ON) converted one.
In the second game of the day, it was another identical 50-0 score as the Lords rolled over the Conestoga Condors.
Morris was the star in the match, scoring three tries and kicking six converts. Cooper added another two to her tally, while Austin, London and Shantel Wray (Ajax, ON) each scored one.
Durham wrapped up the third match of the day in 29-0 fashion over the Humber Hawks, elevating their total to 129 runs scored and zero conceded on the day.
Johnston scored a trio of tries in the match with Cooper and Morris each adding one of their own. Morris also kicked two successful converts.
The Lords are back in action next Saturday on home field as they host the weekend's events at Thompson Rugby Park, beginning with a 9:30 AM meeting with the Algonquin Wolves.
