PETERBOROUGH, ON - In the first game of the new calendar year, the Durham College men's basketball team won 79-68 on the road against the Fleming Phoenix.
Durham were ahead early in the game, leading 21-15 after one quarter before extending their lead to 10 points going into halftime. Going into the break, the Lords led 42-32.
In the third quarter it was a low scoring affair, with the Lords holding Fleming to a game-low 14 points in the frame while the visitors only scored 15 themselves.
Back-and-forth basketball would continue to be the story into the fourth and final quarter with both teams matching each other at 22 points each, a significant leap in offensive production from the quarter before.
O'Shane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON), the OCAA's leader in assists, added another seven on the night. In addition, he put up 23 points with six steals and five rebounds.
Kevin Hamlet (Scarborough, ON) and Rudy Fakih (Toronto, ON) each impressed with 13 points each. Kanskie Simon (Pickering, ON) posted a double-digit night with 10 points, shooting 5-for-8 from the field.
Tayshaun Agyarko (Brampton, ON) made his season debut for the Lords, going 2-for-2 from the free throw line with two rebounds - one on each end of the court.
Durham improves to 10-1 in regular season action as they return to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre on Tuesday, January 16 against the George Brown Huskies at 8:00 PM.
