SCARBOROUGH, ON - With an 81-71 win over the Centennial Colts on Saturday afternoon, the Durham College men's basketball team advance their winning streak to 10 games.
After leading 10-9 halfway through the opening quarter, the hosts went on a 10-3 run to give themselves a six-point lead after 10 minutes of play.
Both offences got hot in the second quarter. Finding themselves down 26-14 over two minutes in, O'Shane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) helped spark some life into the offence with nine points in the second frame. It would ultimately be a 21-point quarter for the Lords, who trailed 39-34 going into halftime.
The tides turned in the second half, with the Lords severely outscoring the hosts 30-10, spearheaded by Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) who shot 4-for-5 and went another 4-for-6 from the line. Five defensive rebounds on his part gave the Lords plenty of opportunities with the basketball.
Centennial were able to chip away at the lead somewhat in the fourth quarter, however only by five points and the Lords would win it 81-71.
Stoop finished the game with a double-double, posting 28 points and 12 rebounds.
Jasean Elliott (Toronto, ON) registered 17 points, six rebounds, four steals and four assists while Kevin Hamlet (Scarborough, ON) put up 16 points, three rebounds, a pair of assists and a block.
Taylor-Douglas saw 32 minutes of action, recording 12 points, eight assists, five rebounds and four steals.
The Lords head to Kingston on Wednesday, January 24 for an 8:00 PM tip-off against the St. Lawrence Surge.
