OSHAWA, ON - The Durham College men's basketball team battle their way to a 12th consecutive victory on Tuesday evening, defeating the visiting Seneca Sting 85-68.
It was a slow start for the Lords, shooting only 28.6% in the opening quarter while being outscored by the visiting Sting 21-14.
The Lords were able to begin clawing their way back in the second quarter, with O'Shane Taylor-Douglas (Scarborough, ON) and Kevin Hamlet (Scarborough, ON) each putting up eight points in the frame to bring the Lords within three. Going into halftime, Seneca led 41-38.
Tides totally shifted in the third quarter - Seneca was under 20 points in a quarter for the first time in the game when they were held to 16 while the Lords offence caught fire and put up 28 points in 10 minutes.
Jasean Elliott (Toronto, ON) scored nine points in five minutes of third quarter play, sparking an incredible second half for the Lords. Durham found themselves on a 16-4 run in the first six minutes of the second half and by the end of the third quarter had a 66-57 lead.
Durham locked down in defence in the fourth quarter of the Retro Night game, holding Seneca to 11 points while adding 19 of their own to win the game by 17 points.
Hamlet led the team in points with 23, adding three rebounds, three steals, two blocks and an assist.
Mark Stoop (Oshawa, ON) put up his third consecutive double-double performance, this time with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with five blocks.
Taylor-Douglas came close to a triple-double, scoring 21 points and assisting 12 times but fell just short with an impressive nonetheless seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.
Elliott was a standout player for the Lords, registering 18 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The Lords are in Kingston to makeup a postponed game on Tuesday, February 6 against the St. Lawrence Surge at 8:00 PM.
