OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's rugby season came to an end at Thompson Rugby Park on Saturday afternoon, dropping their quarter-final matchup against the Georgian Grizzlies by a 31-20 score.
Durham hosted Georgian in what was a rematch of the 2022 gold medal game to open their postseason campaign, but this time the Grizzlies struck first with a try in the second minute.
Owen MacKinnon responded for the Lords with a successful penalty kick, making it a 5-3 score line early.
Both teams would again trade off quick tries as Georgian added another one with a successful convert, while the Lords would mirror that only three minutes later with Ethan Montgomery scoring his first of the game, followed by a successful kick from MacKinnon.
Nearing halftime, Georgian put 12 more points on the board to take a 24-10 lead into the break.
The Lords started to claw their way back with Montgomery scoring his second try of the day and Nate Barnes added one, bringing the game within two points.
The Grizzlies put the final nail in the coffin in the 70th minute with seven more points, putting the match out of reach.
Durham finish the season with three wins and three losses in all competitions.
