OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's rugby team are excited to welcome Nate Barnes to the program for the 2024 season.
Barnes is a local athlete from Pickering and a recent graduate of Pickering High School in Ajax. He is currently involved in the training squad with the Toronto Reds U19 squad.
Nate co-captained the Oshawa Vikings U18 team, earning the rookie award. He was also a co-captain the year prior with the U16 team where he won MVP.
For much of his life, Nate developed his talents with the Ajax Wanderers Rugby Club between 2012 and 2019. He also competed with the Ontario U16 and Reds U17 teams.
In 2023, Nate played against a number of touring sides from overseas, including Newbridge RFC from Wales and Stewarts Melville from Scotland, where he earned man of the match awards. He was recently touring Halifax with the Vikings this past April.
Barnes will be studying at Durham in the Trades Fundamentals program this fall.
