OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team extended their undefeated streak to 6-0, starting the 2024 season with a dominant two-game sweep over the Mohawk Mountaineers at Babcock Field on Friday night.
In front of a lively crowd of over 350 fans, the Lords kicked off the night with an impressive 15-0 no-hit shutout, completed in just four innings. They followed that performance with a hard-fought 6-2 victory in game two.
Makayla Benz (Simcoe, Ont.) was lights out on the mound, pitching three strong innings with five strikeouts and only one walk allowed.
Hannah Oke (Brooklin, Ont.) closed out the no-hitter with one inning of work.
Peyton Jones (Oshawa, Ont.) powered the Lords' offense in game one, launching a three-run homer in the second inning. Jones finished the night 3-for-4 with seven RBIs. Reigning OCAA Player of the Year Grace Herns (Napanee, Ont.) went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while
Jessica Greene (Stratford, Ont.) contributed with a 3-for-4 performance, adding three runs and an RBI.
In game two, Herns continued her strong play, going 2-for-4, while
Ryleigh Easton (Bowmanville, Ont.) chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound,
Morgan Salter (Battersea, Ont.) was steady, pitching four innings, allowing two unearned runs while striking out seven.
Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, Ont.) mixed up her pitches effectively, holding Mohawk to just two hits over the final three innings.
The Lords will aim to keep their unbeaten streak alive this Sunday as they head to London to face the Fanshawe Falcons.
