Game Recap: Women's Softball |

Lords Sweep Fanshawe to Improve to 8-0

LONDON, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team extended their undefeated streak to eight games, sweeping a doubleheader against the Fanshawe Falcons.

The Lords narrowly claimed a 5-3 victory in game one before dominating with a 14-0 shutout in game two.

With an 8-0 record, Durham now leads the second-place Humber Hawks (7-1) by one game. The two teams will square off in a highly anticipated matchup in Etobicoke next Saturday.

In game two Peyton Jones (Oshawa, Ont.) was stellar on the mound, pitching a six-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and allowing just two walks. At the plate, Jones went 3-for-4, scoring two runs and driving in another. She is currently second in OCAA strikeouts with 23 this season, just one more than teammate Makayla Benz (Simcoe, Ont.).

Benz improved her record to 4-0, pitching a complete seven-inning game in the opener. She allowed three runs on four hits.

Grace Hearns (Napanee, Ont.) had a standout day, going 5-for-6 at the plate with three runs, two stolen bases, and an RBI. Hearns, last year's OCAA Player of the Year, continues to lead the league with a .667 batting average.

Durham is on the road for the next four games including a doubleheader at Seneca on Wednesday night. After next Saturday's games in Etobicoke against Sheridan and Humber, the Lords will return home to take on St. Clair (5-3) and Lambton (2-5) the following day.
