OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College improved to 3-3-0 after a commanding 2-0 win over Fleming College, who fell to 0-6-0.
Sage Thomas-Roberts (Toronto, Ont.) was the star of the match, scoring twice in the first half to bring the striker's career goal tally to 40, just two shy of Durham's all-time leader Katie Watts, who holds the record at 42.
Durham dominated the game, recording 28 shots, while Fleming failed to register a single attempt. Despite 13 saves by Fleming's goalkeeper Mikayla Sproule, Durham's pressure proved too much.
In contrast, Durham's defense remained largely untested, as goalkeeper
Keyara Lindell (Whitby, Ont.) and
Breanne Cullaton (Whitby, Ont.) split time and recorded a comfortable shutout without facing a single shot on goal.
Thomas-Roberts opened the scoring at the 23:19 mark, assisted by
Isabel Sullivan (Bowmanville, Ont.) and
Alexis Bayley (Whitby, Ont.), and added a second 11 minutes later, with another assist from Sullivan.
Durham now prepares for a challenging match-up on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the unbeaten Algonquin Thunder (4-0-1). Algonquin previously defeated Durham 4-2 in Ottawa earlier this season, and Durham will be looking to even the score in their upcoming encounter.
