OSHAWA, Ont. – In a rematch of the 2023 OCAA bronze medal game, the Durham College men's rugby team secured a hard-fought win over the St. Lawrence Surge on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Park.
Despite being in penalty trouble and holding a 21-7 lead, Durham found themselves under pressure as St. Lawrence's Zachary Raymond took control, scoring consecutive tries. His second try came with just three minutes left on the clock. However, Raymond missed the conversion, leaving the Surge trailing by two points.
St. Lawrence had a few more chances to seize the lead, but the Lords' defense held firm, allowing Durham to claim their first victory of the season.
Ethan Montgomery,
Connor Martin, and
Kyan King scored tries for Durham, while
Owen MacKinnon successfully converted all three.
Raymond, who scored all 19 points for the Surge, now ranks second in OCAA scoring with 21 points this season.
St. Lawrence currently leads the OCAA East region with a 2-1 record, followed by Seneca at 1-1-1 and Durham in third place at 1-2.
The Lords will be on the road next Saturday to face the winless Algonquin Wolves in Ottawa. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
