OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham came out hot on Friday evening, rolling past the St. Lawrence Surge 83-54 at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre to improve to 7-1 on the season.
The Lords set the tone early with a dominant first quarter, jumping out to a 24-5 lead and never looking back as their defence forced turnovers and fuelled transition pressure throughout the night.
Jasean Elliott continued his strong start to the year with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals, impacting the game in every phase despite heavy defensive attention.
Caleb Carter knocked down four threes on his way to 17 points, while John Dayo added 12 points, six rebounds and four steals, giving the Lords another steady two-way effort in the backcourt.
Rashane Smith was a force around the rim, recording 14 points, eight rebounds and six steals as Durham repeatedly turned defensive pressure into scoring chances.
Desson Spencer anchored the interior with 12 points, a team-high 13 rebounds and three blocks, helping the Lords win the rebounding battle and control the paint at both ends.
Durham's defence was the difference from start to finish, generating 18 steals and turning 31 St. Lawrence turnovers into 31 points. The Lords' largest lead reached 40 late in the third quarter as their depth and tempo continued to wear the Surge down.
The Lords have one game left in the fall semester, hosting the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday, November 25 at 8:00 PM before heading into the holiday stoppage.
