Lords to compete for gold after win over Condors

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords are heading back to the OCAA men's rugby gold medal match after a commanding 40-15 victory over the Conestoga Condors in Saturday's semifinal at Thompson Rugby Park.

Aiden Torrence got the Lords rolling less than 10 minutes in with the opening try, setting the tone for a confident afternoon on home turf.

Nate Barnes powered through for another score just before the half-hour mark, and Dylan McLean-Henry added one more before halftime to send Durham into the break with a 19-8 lead.

The momentum carried straight into the second half as Emmanuel Milford struck early to extend the lead and keep the pressure firmly on the Condors.

Connor Martin added to the total in the 80th minute, and moments later, Owen MacKinnon sealed the win in spectacular fashion with a steal and long run to the try zone.

Devonne Henry was sharp on the boot, converting five times to round out the scoring for a 40-point performance.

With the win, the Lords advance to the championship match, where they'll host the Humber Hawks on Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 PM at Thompson Rugby Park.

The two sides met earlier in the regular season on the same pitch, with Durham earning a narrow 29-27 victory. The Lords finished the regular season 6-0, while Humber went 5-1, their only defeat coming against Durham.

Sunday's rematch promises to be a fitting finale between the league's top two teams.
