TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham Lords end the regular season on a high note, defeating George Brown 86-78 in a highly competitive matchup.
With a balanced offensive attack and strong contributions from key players, the Lords secured the number one spot in the east for a second consecutive season.
Mark Stoop led the way with a dominant performance, posting a double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Stoop was a force in the paint, shooting 8-for-16 from the field and adding four blocks and four steals to his impressive stat line.
Max Voorpool provided crucial scoring support, finishing with 16 points in 17 minutes of play while also grabbing three rebounds. Rudy Fakih helped orchestrate the offence with 12 points and six assists, while also contributing three steals and two blocks to the defensive effort.
Caleb Carter chipped in with 11 points, including two timely three-pointers, and added three rebounds and two assists.Â
Javade Marne was efficient off the bench, scoring six points on perfect shooting and making key plays to sustain Durham's momentum.
Durham's defence played a significant role in the victory, forcing 20 turnovers and recording 12 steals and seven blocks.Â
The Lords were dominant on the boards, outrebounding George Brown 48-38 and capitalizing on second-chance opportunities.
George Brown made several pushes to close the gap, but Durham's ability to score consistently, particularly in the paint where they tallied 38 points, kept the home team at bay.Â
The Lords shot 42.9% from the field and converted 21 points off George Brown's turnovers, ensuring that they maintained control of the game in key moments.
Winning the east division, Durham is set to play the eighth seed in the west for their championship qualifier at home next weekend. Opponent, date and time will be announced on Monday.
