ETOBICOKE, Ont. - For the first time since 1997, the Lords claimed the OCAA Men's Basketball title, defeating the Humber Hawks 67-61.
The Lords recorded 13 steals and eight blocks as a team, forcing Humber into 17 turnovers and capitalizing with 14 points off those mistakes. Durham's defence held Humber to just 33.3% shooting from the field.
The Lords did most of their damage inside, scoring 30 points in the paint and using their size and physicality to control the tempo.Â
The Lords' largest lead of the game came late in the fourth quarter when they stretched the margin to eight points, sealing their championship victory with disciplined defence and key free throws down the stretch.
Mark Stoop delivered a standout performance when it mattered most, leading the Lords with 20 points and 10 rebounds while adding three steals, three assists, and a block. Stoop was ultimately named the championship MVP.
Jasean Elliott provided a much-needed offensive boost, finishing with 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals. His energy on both ends of the floor helped keep Humber's attack in check, particularly in the second half when Durham tightened its defensive grip.
Caleb Carter contributed eight points, knocking down two three-pointers, while Javade Marne added six points and eight rebounds, battling in the paint throughout the game.Â
Rashane Smith provided crucial defensive intensity, collecting seven rebounds, two blocks, and six points while disrupting Humber's interior offence.Â
With the OCAA title secured, the Lords now turn their focus to the national stage as the Lords head to Vanier College in Montreal for the 2025 CCAA Men's Basketball National Championship from March 12-15.
