OSHAWA, Ont. - Jalen Arias, an experienced setter, has signed with the Durham Lords men's volleyball team for the 2025-26 season.
Standing at 5-foot-10, Arias has already achieved remarkable milestones in his journey as a men's volleyball player, and he is eager to continue his growth and make an impact with the Lords.
"Jalen is a proven leader and competitor who brings both maturity and high-level OCAA experience to our program. His ability to run an offence and stay composed under pressure is exactly what we need as we push for a strong 2025-26 season", said head coach Dwayne Cochrane. "We're excited to have him close to home and wearing the green and gold."
Arias' volleyball journey has been defined by dedication and remarkable achievements. One of the standout moments in his career occurred during a game where he executed a solo block against a towering 6-foot-10 outside hitter.
This impressive feat not only highlighted his exceptional skills and timing but also showcased his fearless approach to the game.
Before joining Durham College, Arias had the opportunity to further hone his skills and gain valuable experience at both Sheridan College with the Bruins and Seneca College with the Sting.
He had an impressive freshman season in 2022-23, recording 70 assists in only nine matches with the Bruins to be ranked 28th in the OCAA. Moving to Seneca in 2023-24, Arias made an instant impact with 444 assists on the season, accounting for nearly 70% of all assists registered for Seneca that season. He broke into the top-10, finishing 8th in the league.
Arias' decision to choose Durham College was influenced by the institution's outstanding reputation in both its volleyball and academic programs.
"I have heard so many great things about Durham," said Arias. "I look forward to playing so close to home.
Additionally, the college's close proximity to his hometown of Whitby, was a significant factor in his decision-making process.
During his time with the Hummingbird Volleyball Club, Arias received the prestigious Award of Excellence, recognizing his exceptional skills and contributions to the team. This accolade serves as a testament to his work ethic, dedication, and sportsmanship.
Jalen will begin studying in the Fitness and Health Promotion program in September.
