Nicole Porter puts pen to paper at Durham

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Lords women's rugby team is excited to announce the signing of Nicole Porter, who will be joining the squad for the 2025 season.

Coming from Uxbridge, Porter has a versatile skill set and will add depth to the Lords' roster. She plays at the hooker position in 7s, as well as fullback and flanker positions in 15s that require a combination of speed, agility, and physicality.

Porter has a wealth of experience playing rugby at various levels. She has been a member of the Oshawa Vikings, Toronto Reds Rugby Union, Uxbridge Tigers and Ontario Blues Development Academy. She also plays U19 Women's Football with the Clarington Knights.

Her impressive list of accomplishments includes being a two-time provincial champion with the Oshawa Vikings U18 team, as well as earning the title of 2025 MVP and a recipient of the Tiger Award in 2014 at Uxbridge Secondary School.

Porter herself expressed her excitement about joining the Lords, stating that the team's inclusive and welcoming environment was a major factor in her decision. She also noted that the track record that Durham has in women's rugby played a significant role in her choice.

Head Coach Chris McKee shared his enthusiasm about Porter's signing, emphasizing her athleticism and fit within the team's culture. McKee also highlighted Porter's strong work ethic and determination as qualities that would contribute to the team's success both on and off the field.

Nicole's addition to the roster further strengthens the Lords' position as a formidable force in the OCAA and sets the stage for an exciting season ahead.

Porter will be studying in the Firefighter - Pre-Service Education and Training program at Durham College this fall.

The Lords will open their season in Belleville against the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday, September 13.
