Lords make big splash with signing of Torrance

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's rugby program is thrilled to announce the signing of scrum half Aiden Torrance.

Torrance, who hails from Cannington, Ontario, will join the Lords after a successful high school career at Port Perry High School.

He also brings a wealth of experience from his time playing for the Oshawa Vikings and competing at the provincial and national levels with Rugby Ontario.

Standing at 5-foot-11, Torrance is a force on the rugby pitch with his athleticism, tenacity, and skill set at the scrum-half position.

He has a strong rugby IQ and is a natural leader on the field, having served as a captain on numerous teams in the past.

Torrance has also been invited to multiple Team Canada training sessions, showcasing his potential to compete at the highest levels of the sport.

The decision to join Durham College was an easy one for Torrance. He was drawn to the school's proximity to home, its strong academic and athletic programs, and the opportunity to play for a coaching staff he is familiar with.

"The growth that I can have not only as an athlete, but as a student, is something that really appealed to me about Durham," said Torrance. "The coaching staff has an amazing track record, and having worked with them before, I know they will push me to be the best player I can be."

Torrance also has several friends and former teammates on the Lords roster, making Durham feel like a natural fit.

Head coach John Watkins shared his excitement about Torrance joining the program.

"Aiden is an excellent player who will make an immediate impact on our team. His skill, work ethic, and leadership qualities will undoubtedly help us achieve our goals this season and beyond," said Watkins. "He's a local talent, and I'm excited to have him continue his rugby journey here in Oshawa."

He will begin studying in the Electrical Techniques program in September. The Lords kickoff their season on September 14 against the Sheridan Bruins at Thompson Rugby Park at 1:00 PM.
