SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - The Durham Lords came up just short on the road Tuesday night, falling 77-75 to the Centennial Colts despite 25 fourth quarter points.
Durham shot efficiently from the perimeter, hitting 11 three-pointers at a 40.7% clip and stayed within striking distance throughout despite Centennial building a 20-point lead in the third quarter.
The Lords responded with a strong fourth-quarter push, outscoring the Colts 25-16 over the final 10 minutes, but ran out of time in the closing moments.
Jasean Elliott led Durham with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals, attacking off the dribble and applying steady pressure on the defensive end.
John Dayo was a major factor offensively, finishing with 18 points while knocking down five shots from beyond the arc.
Caleb Carter provided a spark off the bench, scoring 12 points and connecting on four three-pointers. Rahsaan Chambers added nine points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Matthew Iacono chipped in eight points and five rebounds.
Rashane Smith contributed across the stat sheet with five points, seven rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block, helping Durham control the glass with a 30-25 rebounding edge.
The Lords shot 42.6 per cent from the field and moved the ball well, finishing with 13 assists, but Centennial's advantage at the free throw line with a 31-for-42 showing proved to be the difference down the stretch.
Durham will be back on the road on Saturday, January 17 as the Lords take on the St. Lawrence Surge in Kingston at 3 p.m.
