OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team earned a 104-83 win over the Georgian Grizzlies on Wednesday night in Oshawa.
Durham set the tone early, building a 28-20 lead after the first quarter behind strong ball movement and balanced scoring.
Georgian responded in the second, trimming the deficit and closing within three at halftime, with Durham holding a narrow 47-44 advantage.
The turning point came in the third quarter, as the Lords found another gear offensively.
Durham shot 70.6% in the frame and outscored Georgian 33-23, stretching the lead into double digits.
The momentum carried into the fourth, where Durham continued to pressure defensively and convert in transition to put the game out of reach.
John Dayo and Rashane Smith delivered strong performances for the Lords with 18 points apiece. Dayo knocked down four three-pointers and added three rebounds, while Smith was efficient from the floor and contributed six rebounds and three assists.
Romell Russell led the way off the bench, scoring a game-high 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while adding three assists and three steals.
Caleb Carter also provided a spark in reserve minutes, finishing with 15 points and five steals.
Jasean Elliott recorded a double-double for Durham, posting 11 points and 14 assists to go along with six rebounds and four steals.
Javade Marne added 13 points on perfect three-point shooting.
As a team, Durham shot 51.9% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc. The Lords also forced 32 Georgian turnovers and converted them into 43 points, a key factor in the outcome.
There is one game left to play in the regular season as the Lords host the George Brown Huskies on Friday, February 13.
