OSHAWA, Ont. â Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) and Awil Weheliye (Toronto, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Nov. 23.
Â
Panchan, a second-year sport management student, broke Durham Collegeâs single game scoring record for womenâs basketball with 41 points in the Lords 66-64 victory on Friday night at the CRWC against the Algonquin Thunder. Durham's record was previously held by Jenn Hevey at 38 points, which she set in Barrie on Oct. 16, 1998 against Georgian College, when the Lords defeated the Grizzlies 75-26.
Â
Weheliye, a first-year accounting student, hit the Lords final basket of Fridayâs 59-58 victory over the Algonquin Thunder. With 4.3 seconds on the clock Alessio Del Gobbo inbounded the ball to Darian Rowe, who swung the ball out to Weheliye who nailed the pocket three in front of the Lords bench.
Â
Both basketball teams have a pair of games on the road in the coming weeks prior to the holiday break, their next being Friday, Nov. 27 in Scarborough against the Centennial Colts. Their next home games are Tuesday, Jan. 19 when they host the George Brown Huskies.
