Larose and McGirr named athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Stephanie Larose (Whitby, Ont.) and Matt McGirr (Brampton, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Jan. 24.
Larose, a legal office administration major, had seven kills and a block on Thursday in the Lords 3-1 victory over the Trent Excalibur at the CRWC. Having started the season as part of Durham’s depth from the bench, Larose’s performance against Trent was yet another example of how she has stepped up her game to become a regular on the court for the Lords.
McGirr, a mechanical engineering student, earned a staggering eight service aces on Thursday in Durham’s sweep of the Trent Excalibur. As the team’s leader in service aces, this was a season high for McGirr, whose previous high was seven in the Lords five-set match against the Georgian Grizzlies on Dec. 3. McGirr also added five kills against Trent.
Both volleyball teams are on the road this weekend as they travel to Ottawa to face the Algonquin Thunder on Friday before battling the La Cité Coyotes on Saturday.
