OSHAWA, Ont. – Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) and Camile Lefaive (Whitby, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week presented by Boston Pizza North Oshawa for the period ending Feb. 28.
Marshall, a first-year sport management student, was named a tournament all-star for her play over the weekend at the OCAA championship held in North Bay, as well as the player of the game in the Lords 3-0 quarter-final victory over the Cambrian Golden Shield. She finished the three matches at the championship with 33 kills, five blocks, six aces and 24 digs. Those six aces all came in the bronze medal match against the Fanshawe Falcons.
Lefaive, a first-year nursing student, had 23 assists in Saturday’s OCAA bronze medal match against the Fanshawe Falcons. Although that number may seem normal, for Lefaive, who was the Lords starting libero all season, it isn’t a usual stat for her. With starting setter Megan Romain sidelined with the flu and Emily Hacker starting as libero, Lefaive came into the match off the bench in the opening set of the bronze medal match. She settled in and gave Durham a shot at bronze, especially considering she had not been the team’s setter all season and this was arguably the biggest game of her OCAA career. Lefaive also finished with a kill, ace, block and two digs in the match. The Lords lost to the Falcons in the fifth set, giving the team back-to-back final four finishes for the first time since 2005 and 2006.
Durham’s volleyball and basketball teams have wrapped up their season, with only indoor soccer regional and championship events left for 2015-16.
