OSHAWA, Ont. – Erik Janssen (Hampton, Ont.) of the men’s volleyball team and Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) have been named the Durham College student-athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 11.
Janssen, a biomedical engineering technology major, became the Lords all-time points leader on Thursday night at home in a 3-1 win over the Fleming Knights. Needing only two points going into the match, he picked up a match-high 19 kills and 22 points. He continued his strong play in a 3-2 win on Saturday over the Loyalist Lancers. Janssen again had a match-high 19 kills and 24 points. As of the weekend he has 794 points and 655 kills.
For the men, they will need some help from the George Brown Huskies and a win over the Sting to have a shot at fourth in the east region and a home OCAA championship qualifying match. Currently the Lords hold the tiebreaker over the Fleming Knights who play the Huskies on Tuesday night.
The Durham College athlete of the week award is presented by Subway located at 2069 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa.
