Clark throws a no-hitter for Durham College

Men's Baseball Exhibition Series
Game One: Durham defeated Finger Lakes 5-2
Game Two: Durham defeated Finger Lakes 5-1

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Durham College men's baseball weekend road trip had a memorable ending as freshman pitcher AJ Clark (Fonthill, Ont.) threw a no-hitter against Finger Lakes Community College.

Clark pitched a gem for the Lords, not allowing a single hit over seven innings while striking out six hitters. The Lakers lone run against Clark came off a two-base error and a pair of sacrifice flies in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Tied 1-1 heading into the top of the seventh, Durham bats came alive as they scored four runs off the Lakers closer to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Clark would close out the game in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the win and his first career no-hitter.

David Fischer (Oshawa, Ont.) continued his strong play for Durham as he went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs, one RBI and two walks. The first year catcher had three stolen bases in game two, brining his weekend total to eight.

Andrew Fleming (Whitby, Ont.) had a key RBI for the Lords in the sixth inning to tie the game up at one run apiece. Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) went 2-for-4 with one run and an RBI while Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.) was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

In game one, the Lords relied on strong pitching and timely hitting to earn a 5-2 victory.

Wesley Hardwick (Toronto, Ont.) earned the "W" pitching five strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out six. Adam White (Cornwall Island, Ont.) picked up the two-inning save, not allowing a single Lakers hit.

Four Lords had two hits in the opening game including Fischer, Ryan George (Whitby, Ont.), Dale Valade (North Bay, Ont.) and Ilija Bozinovski (Ajax, Ont.).

Finger Lakes CC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The Lords will return home on Tuesday, September 17 when they host the Humber Hawks. The Hawks defeated Durham 6-3 in the Lords home opener last week. First pitch at Kinsmen Memorial Stadium is 7 p.m.
