Women's Basketball Preview
The Durham Lords women's basketball team heads to Algonquin on Friday and looks to break Algonquin's undefeated season and take their winning streak to eight. Game starts at 6 p.m.
Durham (8-2) extended their winning streak to seven after defeating Georgian college 64-42 on Friday. Durham's strong defensive play allowed them to pull away as they had 25 points off turnovers throughout the game. Leading Durham for the second straight game was forward
Kauri LaFontaine who earned a triple double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.
Algonquin (6-0) is making their 2014 debut with a home opener against a team that always gives them a tough game. Algonquin started off the first half of their season with a perfect record and looks to continue this going into the second half. Algonquin has added two new players to their roster; forward Jessica Basquin and point guard Felicia Mazerolle in hopes that they can add more depth to their lineup.
Head-to-Head Matchup
These two teams last met on November 1
st at Durham. The game got off to a slow start with the score after the first only being 11-7 in favour of Algonquin. Algonquin led the game from start to finish, as Durham would not help themselves getting only 10 offensive rebounds compared to Algonquin's 20 and 29 turnovers committed by the Lords. Algonquin would go on to win this game 57-45.

Key to the Game
Algonquin has added two new players to their roster giving them more height inside and another veteran player who is able to handle the ball. Their new inside player Jessica Basquin was the Rookie of the year last year for St. Lawrence and the OCAA. Algonquin is an aggressive team who looks to pressure the ball and create turnovers giving them easy chances going the other way.
The Lords are on their longest winning streak in five years giving them confidence and determination to keep this going. Durham has been dominant on the defensive end boxing out and grabbing every board limiting the offensive chances for the opposing team. The Durham team has come together and each player has stepped up making it very hard for the opposing teams to defend.
Key Matchups
Leading the attack for Algonquin is point guard Kim Cupid with an average of 15 points per game, 5 assists and 9 rebounds. Sandra Bascoe is another threat to teams as she is averaging 13 points per game and 8 rebounds. Sandra is a big presence inside the paint and handles the inside pressure very well drawing fouls to gain the extra point attempt.
Leading for Durham and a threat to every team they face is
Kauri LaFontaine and
Kate Mowat. Both these players are veterans when it comes to playing in important games and will lead their teams to victory against the strongest teams.
Kate Mowat is averaging 13 points a game and 5 rebounds, she has found her shooting stride hitting important shots from beyond the arc.
Kauri LaFontaine has continued to be the leader on the court averaging 15 points, 4 assists and 9 rebounds per game. Durham's quick ball movement and ability to drive the paint makes them a threat for open looks and easy points.
Men's Basketball Preview
Durham College looks to go for their 3
rd consecutive win and redemption against Algonquin. The game will take place in the Nation's Capital at 8pm.
Durham (5-7) has started off the 2014 season with two consecutive wins having beat Georgian on Friday in overtime 93-89. Leading the scoring for Durham was Ajahmo Clark with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Algonquin (11-0) is 100% on the season. Starting off 2014 they continue on their winning ways defeating Canadore 91-76. Algonquin's leading scorer was Njugana Waiganjo scoring 30 of their 91 points.

st 2013 in Oshawa. Algonquin dominated most of the game out scoring Durham in three out of the four quarters. Algonquin won the game 93-75.

Keys to the Game
Algonquin is looking to continue their win streak to 12-0 having tied their previous record from 2010/11 season. They are a team made up of mostly veterans which gives them the advantage of knowing their players strengths and weaknesses and play towards them. Algonquin is able to utilize their bench and go six deep without losing the momentum of having their starters on the bench.
Durham is looking for revenge after losing on their home court a couple months back. Durham has their entire team dressing for this game in hopes that they players they have added and were missing the first time these two teams met will be able to change the outcome. Durham has strong ball handles that are able to defeat the pressure defence and find the open man generating open look opportunities. Durham is a quick athletic team that are able to shoot the outside shot and board the rebound for put back opportunities.

Algonquin's leading scorers are Njuguna Waiganjo who is averaging 22 points per game and four rebounds, look for Algonquin to want the ball in his hands in clutch moments of the game.
Durham's leading scorer is Ajamho Clark who is leading the Lords with 25 points, 10 rebound and eight assists per game. Ajamho is aggressive on the glass and looks to take his players one on one with his quick ball handling skills.
