Durham advances to day three of the OCAA Championship

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Less than 24 hours after suffering a quarter-final loss to the No. 2 ranked Algonquin Thunder, Durham College managed to keep their hopes of winning a medal at the 2014 Belair Direct National Fitness OCAA Men's Basketball Championship alive, picking up a 78-75 win over Seneca in the bronze medal quarter-finals.
In the first game of day two, Durham managed to hold off Seneca by three points as they earned their first win at the provincial championship since the 1998 season. Durham held a substantial 67-53 lead after three quarters, but Seneca closed the gap to two points with just over a minute left in the game. With Seneca fouling the Lords to stop the clock, Durham managed to convert on their free throw opportunities to advance to the next round.
Ajahmo Clarke led Durham with 20 points while
Eric Smith (15),
Aron Naim (14) and
Saliym Cadogan (12) also netted double figures. Clarke had a big game in the offensive end as six of his 10 rebounds were in Seneca's zone.
Calmar Morgan scored a game-high 25 points to lead Seneca with Jamal Boyce and Elijah Brown chipping in with 23 and 13 respectively.
Durham will now take on the loser of the primetime semi-final game on Friday night between the Mohawk Mountaineers and the hosting Sheridan Bruins. Game time for the bronze medal semi-finals is noon.
