Lords roll over Fanshawe in their season opener OCAA Women's SoftballGame One - Durham defeated Fanshawe 4-2Game Two – Durham defeated Fanshawe 11-0 LONDON, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team opened up their regular season with a pair of road victories over Fanshawe College on Saturday afternoon. The Lords doubled up Fanshawe 4-2 in game one and followed that up with an 11-0 shutout in game two.
After a two hour rain delay to start the day, it took Durham a couple of innings to heat up as they trailed 1-0 after two. In the top of the third inning, the Lords sent eight batters to the plate and managed to score four runs to take a commanding lead.
Fanshawe would manage to score one more run in the fifth inning, but the combination of
Lydia Kalbfleisch (Moorefield, Ont.) and
Danielle Crosby (Whitby, Ont.) on the mound would enable the team to cruise to victory. Kalbfleisch earned the win pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs and 11 hits while striking out six. Crosby had a two-inning save allowing only one Fanshawe hit.
Katrina Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) had a big game at the plate going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) and Caleigh Coles (Duncan, B.C.) also had two hits apiece.
In game two, Lords pitchers dominated Fanshawe hitters as they held the Falcons to just one hit. Sam MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) pitched six innings and allowed only two base runners, doing a great job of keeping the ball in play and allowing the Lords' defence to record outs. Crosby would pitch a perfect seventh inning to earn her second save of the day.
Gammie would have her second multi-hit game as she went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Left fielder
Courtney Hobbs (Oshawa, Ont.) also went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Justine Pike (Whitby, Ont.) and Coles combined for four RBI and three runs scored.
Durham will finish off their weekend road trip in Windsor on Sunday as they take on St. Clair. The Saints are 2-2 to start the season, after splitting doubleheaders with Seneca and Conestoga.
