FROM THE THRONE: Morgan Salter

Dive into "From The Throne" to explore the personal reflections of players and coaches that highlight their personal journeys, pivotal moments and behind-the-scenes stories that shape their careers. These features paint a personal portrait of the people behind their accomplishments.

As I reflect on my journey as a Durham Lord, one word comes to mind: transformative.

Over the past five years, I've experienced it all.

There were moments that pushed me to my limits, but those experiences helped me emerge stronger and more self-assured.

From the early days of uncertainty to now, my time at Durham College has shaped me into the person I am today.

I'll forever carry the memories and connections I've made here.

Once a Lord, always a Lord.

A GAME TO REMEMBER
On a personal level, there's one game that will always stand out to me.

On September 18, 2024, at Seneca, I threw a perfect game in a 23-0 win.

I pitched all 5.0 innings and struck out 13 of the 15 batters I faced, and from the very first inning, I felt completely in control.

Everything just seemed to click that day.

My pitches were landing where I wanted, my confidence kept building, and I was locked in from start to finish.

As the game went on, I started to realize what was happening, but I tried not to let myself get too caught up in it. I stayed focused on each pitch, trusting my preparation and sticking to what had been working.

It wasn't just about the result, but the feeling of being fully present and trusting myself in a big moment.

That game will always be something I carry with me, a reminder of what I'm capable of when I compete with confidence and believe in my abilities.

THE CULTURE
Being part of the Durham College softball program has meant the world to me.

While there were certainly ups and downs, it was the communication and camaraderie that always pulled us through.

The culture of this team is built on support, hard work, and staying connected.

No matter what we were going through, we always found a way to come together.

It's competitive, but also like a family, and that's what makes it so special.

As a leader, I've always tried to lead by example and stay consistent, regardless of the circumstances.

I wanted the younger players to see the value of hard work, maintaining a positive attitude, and pushing through tough moments.

I may not be the loudest person on the field, but I've always strived to be a reliable and supportive teammate.

I hope they've learned the importance of resilience, believing in themselves, and giving their best every single day.

CHAMPIONSHIP STANDARD
Winning became a defining part of my time at Durham.

Over five seasons, I was fortunate to be part of teams that consistently found success at both the provincial and national level.

We brought home a national gold and silver, along with two provincial golds, two silvers, and a bronze.

Each season came with its own challenges, its own group, and its own story, but the standard never changed.

There was always an expectation to compete, to push each other, and to find a way to win.

Being part of that kind of culture is something I'll never take for granted.

Those championships aren't just medals—they represent the work we put in every day, the trust we built as teammates, and the pride of representing Durham on the biggest stages.

BALANCING ACT
Off the field, I'm passionate about my studies in occupational therapy and physiotherapy.

Watching a loved one go through challenging times and witnessing their progress inspired me to pursue this field.

I wanted to help others and better understand neurological rehab and how to support people through their recovery journeys.

Balancing the demands of academics and athletics hasn't always been easy, but it's taught me valuable lessons in time management and discipline.

I've learned to stay organized, maintain a routine, and prioritize my responsibilities.

It's been a juggling act, but I've come to realize that I'm capable of pushing through challenges, even when things get tough.

As I prepare to leave Durham College, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia.

I'll miss the team, the relationships, and the environment that made being a Durham Lord so special.

If I could give my first-year self any advice, it would be to cherish every moment because it goes by in the blink of an eye.

Stay confident, stand your ground, and make the most of every opportunity.

THE IMPACT
My journey as a Durham Lord has been nothing short of transformative.

The highs, the lows, the victories, and the setbacks have all contributed to my growth as an athlete and as a person.

I'm grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the connections I've made along the way.

No matter where life takes me next, I'll always carry the spirit of a Lord in my heart.

And I'll forever be proud to have worn the green and gold.
