OCAA Men's BasketballDurham College defeats George Brown 99-90 OSHAWA, Ont. – Just when it seemed like Durham College men's basketball team might be slipping away from George Brown, the Huskies would make it rain.
With 51 of their 90 points coming from downtown, George Brown was able to keep pace with the No. 14 ranked Lords, who ultimately defeated the visiting Huskies 99-90.
Akai Nettey and Cutris Baanee had six and five threes respectively, which contributed to them scoring 30 and 17 points in the game for George Brown.
That wouldn't be enough to tame Durham's top scorers, who carried the team to victory.
The team's top scorer,
Ajahmo Clarke (Ajax, Ont.), had a triple-double, 19 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in the game.
Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) led in the point's category with 35.
Dylan Pelissero (Oshawa, Ont.) had 23 points and eight rebounds for the Lords in the win.
After taking a 26-19 lead into the second quarter, Durham College watched the Huskies go on a few offensive runs before halftime, which put them down 42-38 at the break.
The Lords quickly took a 44-42 lead to start the second half, but a George Brown three put them ahead again.
With the Huskies leading 55-52, Durham went on a 10-0 run to take the lead again. Heading into the final quarter it was the Lords ahead 66-64. George Brown closed the gap to one, 72-71, early in the final 10 minutes, but they were unable to get closer or take the lead one last time as Durham held onto their 99-90 win.
This weekend Durham travels to North Bay to face Canadore before returning home to host Centennial on Jan. 27.
