KINGSTON, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team will put the first half of the season behind them and look to climb the standings when they start up conference play again in 2016.
Durham finished the opening half of the 2015-16 campaign on Wednesday with a 73-57 loss in Kingston to the St. Lawrence Vikings. The loss puts them at 4-6 on the season, sixth in the OCAA east division.
The Lords opened the game with a 23-13 lead after a quarter, but the Vikings outscored Durham 22-10 in the second to take a 35-33 lead at halftime.
St. Lawrence's momentum continued in the second half as they scored 22 in the third to increase the lead to 57-49, en route to their 73-57 victory.
Rashaun Bennett (Scarborough, Ont.) led Durham offensively with 16 points, with
Aaron Hayles (Pickering, Ont.) picking up 12 points.
Darian Rowe (Maple, Ont.) had a double-double in the Lords loss with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The rival Vikings' scoring was led by Donald Gibson and Jaz Bains, who scored 23 and 21 points, while Gibson made it a double-double with 16 rebounds.
Durham will now look forward to the George Brown Invitational tournament Jan. 2-3 in Toronto, with their first conference game of 2016 taking place in North York at Seneca.
