OCAA Men's BasketballDurham College defeats Algonquin 76-47 OSHAWA, Ont. – Even with a different looking lineup the Durham College men's basketball team was able to shut down Algonquin on Friday night, making the Thunder's playoff push slightly more difficult.
In what was somewhat of a statement game without leading scorer
Ajahmo Clarke (Ajax, Ont.), the Lords defeated Algonquin 76-47. Clarke was unable to play as he serves a two-game suspension during this weekend's home stand.
Roynelle Meredith (Pickering, Ont.) was also out for Friday's game.
Luckily for Durham,
Kur Ngong (Ottawa, Ont.) returned to the lineup after missing the last five games with an injury. In his return he had four points, nine assists and six rebounds.
Leading the Lords offence on the night was
Darian Rowe (Maple, Ont.) with 20 points and six boards. Eric "Smooth" Smith (Ajax, Ont.) picked up 19 points, five rebounds and six assists.
Durham led 17-15 after the first quarter and 36-27 at halftime. In the third quarter they dominated Algonquin, outscoring them 25-7. In the final quarter the two teams were more evenly matched, but again the Lords were ahead, this time 15-13.
Esmat Atem was Algonquin's leading scorer with 11 points. He also added 10 rebounds and six assists for a double-double.
Durham College's final home game is Saturday night at home against La Cité at 6 p.m. Fans that come out to the game will have the chance to win chocolate and flowers as the game is being played on Valentine's Day.
