OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's baseball team has advanced to the OCAA championship presented by belairdirect after finishing fourth in conference play this season.
Although the Lords were scheduled to host the St. Clair Saints on Tuesday night at home to make up a rainout, the games will not be played as the standings would not be affected regardless of results of that doubleheader.
"We're looking forward to getting back to the championship," said Durham College head coach
Sam Dempster. "Anything can happen at the championship – it's like a clean slate for every team. We matched up well against St. Clair in our doubleheader against them this year so we expect Friday to be an exciting game."
In their first game against the Saints this year the Lords lost a 1-0 pitchers duel before winning 10-9 in a battle of the bats.
Last season Durham was eliminated from the championship in two games, while the Saints edged Fanshawe 9-8 to win the 2015 OCAA championship title.
This year's event will be hosted Oct. 21-22 by Humber College at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke.
The host Humber Hawks will play the Fanshawe Falcons at 11 a.m. followed by Durham College facing the St. Clair Saints at 1:30 p.m. to open Day 1 of play.
