LONDON, Ont. – With the final portion of the OCAA season around the corner the Durham College women's softball team will need to string together some wins to get back into a playoff spot.

Heading into Sunday's doubleheader against the Fanshawe Falcons the Lords were tied for the final playoff spot with the Humber Hawks. After the Hawks swept Conestoga and the Falcons swept the Lords on Sunday, Durham finds themselves in fifth place in the OCAA

To open the doubleheader the Lords came up just short of a win, scoring only one run in the bottom of the seventh as they lost 9-8 to the Falcons.

Sarah Pesonen (Mississauga, Ont.) took the loss for Durham. Over six innings of work she allowed five earned runs on 11 hits and a walk, while striking out two.

Lydia Kalbfleisch went 5.2 innings in the win, allowing six earned runs on 12 hits, three walks and a strikeout. In relief, Alanna Gilmour allowed one earned run over 1.1 innings on three hits and no walks.

Rebecca Ropp (Milverton, Ont.) was 1-for-2 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored to lead the Lords. Justine Pike (Whitby, Ont.) was 2 for-4 with two runs scored in a solid plate performance for Durham.

Rachel Dotzert and Kady Hawkins cause the most trouble for the Lords' pitching with Dotzert going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Hawkins was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

The Falcons pitching and hitting were both involved in their 7-1 win to sweep the doubleheader.

Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) allowed seven earned runs on 13 hits over six innings of work for the Lords in the loss.
