SASKATOON, Sask. – As the Durham College women's softball team is in the thick of a pennant race in Ontario, the team will be shifting their focus this weekend to the national stage as they prepare for Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) Championship. The three-day event will be hosted by the University of Saskatchewan and will run from October 7-9.
This will be the Lords seventh straight appearance at the national championship with their best result coming in 2012, when the team reached the national finals and earned a silver medal. Prior to that season, the Lords earned back-to-back bronze medals and a fifth place finish. Last year, Durham hosted the national championship for the first time in program history.
Durham qualified for the event by winning the 2015 OCAA championship, besting Humber 7-3 in the gold medal game.
The top eight college and university teams from across the country will compete for the national title. Durham will be in pool A which includes St. Clair College, the University of Calgary and the University of Saskatchewan. Pool A includes the Western University, Fanshawe College, the University of Regina and Humber College.
Durham's first game of the tournament is set to take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m. (EST) against the host Saskatchewan Huskies.
First pitch for the national finals is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. (EST) on Sunday.
