KINGSTON, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team outscored the St. Lawrence Vikings 22-4 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 66-50 victory on the road Friday night.
This marked Durham's third straight win as they improve to 3-1 in OCAA conference action. Durham's last win was also dramatic in the late stages of the game as they erased a 12-point fourth quarter deficit against Canadore.
Andre Barrow (Markham, Ont.) did a great job defensively holding CCAA All-Canadian Jaz Bains to just 17 points. Coming into the game, Bains was averaging 28.8 points per game.
Both teams had strong defensive games which was on demonstration in the second quarter as the the offences combined for just 14 points.
Not fazed by the defensive pressure, leading the way for Durham was athlete of the week
Brandon Halliburton who had 22 points. The Brampton native came into weekend action second in league scoring averaging 29 points per game.
Durham's
Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) had a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards while
Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, Ont.) had 13 points and seven rebounds.
St. Lawrence struggled beyond the arc shooting a dismal 2-for-26 while Durham was 10-for-21 with Halliburton leading the way with four three-pointers.
Durham (3-1) is in fourth place in the OCAA east region, two points ahead of four teams lumped together including the Vikings at 2-3. Durham's lone loss came against the Seneca Sting who are undefeated at 5-0.
The Lords will take a break from conference action as they make their annual trip to Hamburg, N.Y. on Saturday to take on Hilbert College. Last season, Hilbert earned a 28-point victory over the Lords.
