OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College men's basketball team picked up a 65-58 win over the St. Lawrence Vikings Friday night.
Friday's result meant little to the Lords who had already been eliminated from the playoffs during their weekend road trip to Ottawa, but had some meaning to the Vikings' positioning atop the OCAA east standings.
Similar to the women's game, Durham had a slow start and trailed 26-14 after the opening quarter. That said, they were able to turn it around with a big second quarter, in which they outscored the Vikings 23-7 to take a 37-33 lead at halftime.
St. Lawrence bettered the Lords in the third to tie the game 49-49 heading into the final 10 minutes, but a well played fourth quarter and balanced offence led Durham to their 65-58 victory.
Graduating senior
Christoff Pierre (Brampton, Ont.) led Durham with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Aaron Hayles (Pickering, Ont.) wasn't far off Pierre's pace with 10 points of his own.
Dylan Pelissero (Ridgeway, Ont.) led the Lords with the game-high 13 rebounds, while picking up six points.
Andrew Dawkins' 16 points paced the Vikings offence, with Jaz Bains adding 13 points. Brad Richards had 11 boards to lead St. Lawrence.
Alongside Pierre, the Lords recognized graduating seniors
Taurell Coutou (Mississauga, Ont.),
Darian Rowe (Maple, Ont.),
Roynelle Meredith (Pickering, Ont.) and Joseph Douglas (Courtice, Ont.) with a short presentation prior to the game.
Durham will now wrap up their 2015-16 season on Tuesday in Belleville when the Lords face the Loyalist Lancers.
