TORONTO, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball started their title defence Sunday with a sweep of the Seneca Sting on the road.
 
Durham handily defeated Seneca 19-0 and 35-0 in their first doubleheader of the OCAA season, on the road at Seneca's Newnham Campus.
 
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) won her first game back with the Lords throwing a no hitter over five innings, with two Sting batters reaching base on Durham errors. She picked up 12 strikeouts in the win.
 
At the plate leading the Lords offence was Melissa McKnight (Brampton, Ont.) going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored; Sabrina Salteri (Vaughan, Ont.) 3-for-3 with a solo homerun; Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.) 4-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs; and Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale, Ont.) going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
 
In the second game the Durham bats stayed hot as they rolled to a 35-0 victory.
 
On the mound Samantha MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) struck out six over five innings.
 
At the plate the Lords broke some team records, including most runs scored in a game (1 team and 2 teams) and most RBIs in a game with 35. Sarah Seifried (Drayton, Ont.) tied two individual OCAA records with five hits in a game and seven RBIs in a game.
 
Offensively to lead Durham Salteri was 4-for-5 with five runs and two RBIs, MacCallum went 4-for-6 with five runs and five RBIs, Katrina Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) went 4-for-5 with five runs and one RBI, and Seifried was 5-for-7 with seven RBIs and four runs scored.
 
The Lords will now take a break from game action on Monday as they prepare for their home opener on Tuesday against the Conestoga Condors. First pitch of the doubleheader is 6 p.m. at Durham Field.
