Hawks even season series, Mountaineers split doubleheader with Lords

TORONTO, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team was unable to get the results they wanted over the weekend as their road trip to Hamilton and Toronto saw them return with a lone win.
 
On Saturday in Hamilton the Lords were shutout 8-0 by the Mohawk Mountaineers before shutting out Mohawk 2-0.
 
In the opening game Sarah Bell's three-run home run sparked the five-run inning for the Mountaineers in the second inning, while Nikki Grover pitched the complete game shutout for Mohawk.
 
Katrina Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) took the loss for the Lords, allowing eight runs on 10 hits over six innings, while striking out five.
 
In the second game at Mohawk Sports Park it was Samantha MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) that threw a complete game shutout for Durham's 2-0 win. She only allowed two hits, while striking out two.
 
At the plate Rebecca Ropp (Milverton, Ont.) led the Lords going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
 
After Durham earned two walk-off wins on Thursday night at home, the Humber Hawks got their revenge on Sunday at Wildwood Park as they swept their home half of the doubleheader.
 
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) took the 4-2 loss in the opening game after allowing one earned run on nine hits and two walks in six innings of work. Myranda Pierson earned the win, holding Durham to only five hits and two runs over seven innings of work.
 
Offensively Sarah Franchetto went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI to lead Humber, while Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.) was 1-for-2 with a walk for the Lords.
 
Humber took the 1-0 pitcher's duel in the second half of the doubleheader as Rachel Matheson-Green went seven, allowing only five hits and three walks in the shutout of the Lords.
 
Megan McDonald allowed three hits, three walks and a run over 5.2 innings in the loss. The Hawks lone run came in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Jaimie Clarke (Elmvale, Ont.) was 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Durham's offence.
 
This weekend the Lords will travel to Windsor and London to face St. Clair and Fanshawe. First pitch of both doubleheaders goes at 1 p.m.
