Sting squash Lords comeback, keep Durham out of playoff spot

OSHAWA, Ont. – A slow start was turned around by the Durham College men's basketball team only to have the Seneca Sting return the favour and come back to defeat the Lords 78-58.

Durham only outscored the Sting in the second quarter, 20-19, to trail by three at the half. Unfortunately for the Lords Khalil Miller scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second half to lead Seneca to their victory.

Dondre Huggins (Scarborough, Ont.) had a career night for Durham in the loss, finishing the night tied with Miller for the game-high 19 points. His previous high of eight came against George Brown earlier this year on Nov. 18.

Finishing just one rebound away from a double-double was Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) with 17 points and nine boards.

Seneca's offence was spread out as Yusef Ali, Haroun Mohamed and Dimitri Lim each finished in double-digits with 15, 12 and 10 points respectively.

The Lords are still two points out of a playoff spot, which is held by the Loyalist Lancers and St. Lawrence Vikings who have 12 points.

Durham still has eight games remaining, including games against both the Lancers (Feb. 7) and Vikings (Feb. 21).

Their next action is this Saturday on the road as the Lords make their annual trip to North Bay to take on the Canadore Panthers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
