OSHAWA, Ont. – Five teams are vying for two playoff spots and the Durham Lords are one of them.
After a 95-84 victory for the Durham College men's basketball team over the La Cité Coyotes the Lords find themselves tied with Loyalist and Georgian for the sixth and final playoff spot in the OCAA east region.
St. Lawrence is only two points ahead of the trio in fifth, while Canadore is two points back of the Lords.
It was a balanced effort that earned Durham the victory as six Lords finished in double-digits.
Brandon Halliburton (Brampton, Ont.) led the way with 23 points, while
Funsho Dimeji (Malton, Ont.) was one rebound shy of a double-double in back-to-back games as he finished with 16 points and nine boards.
Julian Hinckson Jr. (Ajax, Ont.) and
Fioti Mabanza (Whitby, Ont.) scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
Trea Lawson (Whitby, Ont.) and
Todd Bryce (Ajax, Ont.) each added 10.
La Cité was led offensively by Ulric Kiamba's 19 points.
Tuesday night will be a big night for the Lords as they look to move ahead of Loyalist for the final playoff spot. Their final game of the regular season on Feb. 21 against the St. Lawrence Vikings will likely have major implications as well as each team is fighting to extend their season.
Tip-off is 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
