Lords advance to final day of national championship after walking off hosts

SASKATOON, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team has advanced to the final day of the Canadian Collegiate Softball Association (CCSA) national championship in dramatic fashion.
 
The Lords walked off the host Saskatchewan Huskies 7-6 to end the second day of the tournament. Down 6-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Durham College scored five to shock the Huskies and advance to the final day of play against the winner of the St. Clair and Western game that began at 11 p.m. EST.
 
On Sunday, the Regina Cougars and Calgary Dinos play to see who gets a bye to the final, while the Lords and St. Clair or Western will play to see who advances to the semifinal/bronze medal game.
 
To get through the round-robin at 2-2 the Lords opened with an 8-0 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies and 9-2 loss to the Calgary Dinos on Friday.
 
A 2-1 loss to the Regina Cougars is how Durham College opened Saturday, followed by a 4-3 win over the Western Mustangs – setting up their qualifying game against the Huskies.
 
Following the round-robin Kaitlyn Hickey (Oshawa, Ont.) was named to the national championship all-star team as an outfielder, while Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) received the same honour as a pitcher.
