KITCHENER, Ont. - The Durham College women's softball team opened the CCSA national championship with a 3-2 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies, before falling 5-2 versus the Western Mustangs in Kitchener on Friday.
Last season the Lords captured the silver medal at the annual national championship, defeating the Calgary Dinos 5-1 in the semifinal, before dropping the gold medal match against the Regina Cougars 8-1.
DC continues tournament play tomorrow morning versus the same Dinos they met in the semifinal last year. First pitch is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
GAME 1
• Fifth-year veteran outfielder
Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C) left a mark on the game with a two run home run.

Madigan McGhee (Ajax, Ont.) also came up clutch for the Lords, hitting a two out RBI single to secure the win for Durham.
GAME 2
• Coels continued her strong first day, going 2-for-3 in Game 2 versus the Mustangs, crossing the plate once herself.
• Mustangs hitter Claire Lavereau did all the damage needed, knocking in a three RBI home run in the fourth inning.

Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) delivered a complete game win against the Huskies.

Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) went all seven innings in the loss, allowing five earned runs, while striking out four
• Aimee Leduc earned the win for Western, limited DC to just six hits.
