SANBORN, N.Y. – The four-time defending OCAA champion Durham Lords started their softball season off with a split during their annual preseason U.S. trip.
Durham College opened the day with a commanding 9-0 victory over the Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves. The second game saw the Thunderwolves offence come alive as the Lords fell 12-9 in the contest.
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) was the winning pitcher for Durham, while
Claire Dempsey took the loss in the second game.
Leading the Lords at the plate was
Kaleigh MacIntyre (Guelph, Ont.) going 2-for-3 with a grand slam in the second inning.
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.) was also 2-for-3 with two triples.
The second game saw
Courtney McKellar (Alvinston, Ont.) go 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, while Black was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate.
The Lords wrap up their preseason play tomorrow with another doubleheader with the Thunderwolves. Next weekend they travel to Windsor and London to open conference play against the St. Clair Saints and Fanshawe Falcons.
