SANBORN, N.Y. - A near-perfect day for the Durham College women's softball team saw them leave New York state with a 3-1 preseason record.
Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, Ont.) earned a 14-0 victory to open the day against the host Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves.
Andrea Patrick (Whitby, Ont.) finished the preseason with her second win in as many days against the Thunderwolves, this time 10-0.
Glendinning went five innings, while striking out six and allowing two hits. Patrick closed out the final two innings. They were supported at the plate with
Courtney McKellar (Alvinston, Ont.) going 4-for-5 with three sings and a double, while pitchers Glendinning and Patrick also got it done offensively, each going 2-for-2.
In the second game Patrick struck out three, while giving up three hits over three innings. Veteran pitcher
Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) closed the final four innings with five strikeouts.
Alexis Pereira (Newmarket, Ont.) was solid at the plate, going 3-for-3, while
Nicole Mancini (Scarborough, Ont.) was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
"Overall it was a good weekend for the team with three wins," said head coach
Jim Nemish. "I was impressed with freshman catcher
Cari Clements (Kitchener, Ont.) in handling veteran pitchers Black and Patrick. Even though freshman
Sydney Redick (Alvinston, Ont.) was under the weather on Sunday, she contributed at the plate along with
Claire Dempsey (Port Perry, Ont.)."
