TORONTO, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's basketball team defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers 95-93 in overtime on the opening day of the GBC Classic in Toronto on Friday afternoon.
Both teams exchanged the lead throughout the tightly contested game, but it was two strong defensive stands that made the difference at the end of the first overtime period that allowed the Lords to capture the win and move on to the semifinal. First-year forward
Gabriel Andre (Ottawa, Ont.) and returning Lord
Daavyd Marquez-Relih (Mississauga, Ont.) topped the Lords with 21 points apiece in the win, while versatile guard
Nathanial Parker (Ajax, Ont.) pulled down 11 rebounds to lead DC on the boards.
DC will face-off with the host George Brown Huskies tomorrow afternoon, with a spot in the exhibition tournament final on the line. Tip-off for the contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
