DC basketball knocks off Centennial in exhibition doubleheader

OSHAWA, ON - Welcoming the Centennial Colts to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre (CRWC) on Tuesday night for an exhibition doubleheader, the Durham College men's and women's basketball teams both picked up victories, with the women winning 66-59 and the men 89-75.

The night opened with the women jumping out to a fast start, eventually building a 12 point lead over the Colts by the three minute mark of the first quarter. Helping spur on the early offensive success was Marie Stasiuk (Cobourg, ON) who led the Lords with a team-high 22 points, while adding eight rebounds. Also helping to shut down the Colts on the defensive end, Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) was a standout for DC, finishing her night with seven rebounds and three steals, while adding three assists and 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting on the offensive end of the court as well. Rounding out the double-digit performances for the Lords in the win, Jillian Thompson (Oshawa, ON) scored 19 points, grabbing nine boards, and facilitating with six assists.

Jumping to the men's match, Durham again saw big first half success, holding Centennial to just eight points in the first quarter, while leading by over 20 points at multiple points in the game. Most impressive for the Lords in the great team win was the extra pass as DC registered 28 assists to just six for the Colts. Adam Hosseini (Toronto, ON) led the charge with a game-high 33 points, including four made three-pointers and a 3-for-3 night from the free throw line. Hosseini rounded out his stat line with four rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Meanwhile, guard duo Keeth Tennant (Toronto, ON) and Angelo Sarsonas (Toronto, ON) added 16 and 15 points, respectively, with Sarsonas recording a double-double of 10 assists as well. 

The home win for both women and men finish the Lords preseason schedule with both teams to begin regular season play this coming January. First games for both teams will be on the road versus the St. Lawrence Surge in Kingston on Friday, Jan. 7 with tip off for the women scheduled for 6 p.m., to be followed by the men at 8 p.m. All OCAA regular seasons will be available to stream via OCAA LIVE.
