Durham run into holiday break with win in Kingston

KINGSTON, ON – The Durham Lords women's basketball team head into the holiday break with a 6-1 record following a 73-60 win over the St. Lawrence Surge.

Shay Littmann (Ajax, ON) opened the scoring early with a triple in the first 17 seconds of the game to put the Lords up by three. St. Lawrence went ahead 12-11 with three minutes left in the opening quarter, and that would be their only lead of the game. Durham ended the quarter on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point lead after 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Lords only scored 11 points but also held the Surge to only 16. This would cut the lead in half, but Durham still went into halftime on top.

The third quarter was relatively back and forth for the first half of it, but a 12-7 run in the final 5:54 gave the Lords their double-digit lead back.

St. Lawrence's 18 points in the fourth quarter was a game-high for the hosts, however the Lords dropped 19 of their own points and refused to give up any ground.

Brianna Morrison (Oshawa, ON) was the team leader in points with 24, shooting 10-for-17 from the field in 33 minutes of play. Three other Lords posted double-digit points, starting with Hannah Heimonen (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) with 14 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals. Emily Glendinning (Plattsville, ON) registered 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals. Onika Leveridge (Scarborough, ON) had the lone double-double of the night, dropping 10 points and grabbing a team-leading 15 rebounds.

Zharia Gallimore (Ottawa, ON) was also a force in the paint with 11 rebounds, as well as five steals and five points.

Durham's 21 steals played a big part in the win on Friday night, ultimately scoring 30 points off of turnovers.

The Lords will return to OCAA conference play in the new year, beginning with a trip to Belleville on Friday, January 13, 2023 against the Loyalist Lancers at 8:00 PM.
