OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College women's basketball is welcoming a new face to the court as Nathanella-Sabelle Blake joins the Lords for the upcoming season.
The Ajax, Ontario, native arrives eager to contribute her energy and work ethic to a program that feels close to home.
"Nathanella-Sabelle is the kind of player who competes for every possession. She doesn't let her size define her game, and that determination is something you can't teach," said Head Coach Warren Williams. "We're excited to help her continue developing her skills and believe she'll make a positive impact on our program with the way she approaches the game every day."
Standing at 5-foot-2, Blake plays the guard position and has built her game on hustle and grit. One of her favourite memories came when she pulled down nine rebounds in a single game despite being the shortest player on the court. That same determination now fuels her next step with the Lords.
After spending an academic year at Humber Polytechnic, Blake said the decision to transfer was about finding the right environment for both her studies and her sport.
"I chose Durham College because it's closer to home and a better fit for me," she said. "I wanted a fresh start in an environment where I can focus both academically in my studies and in athletics through varsity basketball as I work toward my goal of playing in the WNBA."
Blake will be entering the Early Childhood Education program at Durham while suiting up for the women's basketball team. With a background that includes time with the Scarborough Blues, Durham Chameleons, and Eastern Earthquakes, she brings a range of experience from club competition and extramural play.
Her mindset heading into the season is simple: put in the work and let the results follow. As she prepares for training camp and her first games in a Lords uniform, she's focused on bringing energy on both ends of the floor and continuing to grow as a student-athlete.
The 2026-27 OCAA regular season tips off in Kingston on Friday, October 23 against the St. Lawrence Surge at 6 p.m.
