Marcy Shaw to be latest addition to women's volleyball

OSHAWA, ON – The Durham College women's volleyball team announces Marcy Shaw (Mitchell's Bay, ON) as the newest addition to the program.

Shaw is a utility player, hitting right-handed and measuring it at 5'7.5". She was coached by Elish Smith, a Durham College graduate, at Chatham Kent Secondary.

"Marcy made an immediate connection to Durham College when she came for a tour a while back," said Head Coach Tony Clarke. "She has a great mindset that hard work pays off and has proven to be willing to work for everything she has earned. Marcy is willing to learn different positions to be a valuable part of the team and is looking to study and play at Durham for the next 4-5 years."

Set to graduate from Chatham Kent Secondary, she will leave behind her mark as a Midget and Junior MVP, Lambton Kent Secondary School Association (LKSSA) Junior champion and Senior silver medalist. At the club level, she has played six years with the Chatham Ballhawks.

"The greatest athletic thrill for me is getting the game winning point or earning a point after a big rally and when the team comes together and wins a medal," said Shaw. "That adrenaline rush and being part of a team, encouraging each other to do our best and reach a common goal is why I love this sport."

Marcy will be entering her sixth season playing beach volleyball this summer. In her career, she has won silver at the Division II 16U Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) Beach Championships and finished fourth in the Division II 18U division.

Shaw will be joining the School of Health & Community Services as she will be studying in the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program.
